Port Shuttle Service Closure

Friday, 19 January 2007

CRT Group wishes to advise that the Port Shuttle Service operating between its Altona North terminal and the Port of Melbourne will cease effective 18 February 2007.

It is with regret that this decision has been made, as CRT Group has been an active supporter of intermodal initiatives to alleviate road traffic congestion on metropolitan roads and around the Port of Melbourne.

Since the introduction of the Port Shuttle service in May 2003, CRT Group has made a significant financial investment, in order to make the Port Shuttle Service a success.

Factors such as low priced road transport alternatives and the lack of support for short haul rail has increased the financial burden placed on CRT Group, which has been a significant factor in the decision to cease the operation of the service.

The closure of the Port Shuttle Service will not affect the high level of service that CRT Group currently provides to its customers.
