Awarded for Excellence in Safety

Friday, 9 October 2009

CRT Group was recently honoured for our achievements at the 2009 NSCA/ExxonMobil National Safety Awards of Excellence held in Sydney.

The Awards acknowledge companies which have developed innovative safety solutions or implemented best practice in Occupational Health Safety and Environment (OHS&E).

Each year the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) nominates an industry sector to highlight the progress of workplace safety and/or environmental achievements and this year entries were called for from within the transport and logistics industry.

CRT Group was honoured with the 2009 Transport and Logistics OHS&E Award for creating a sustainable safety framework throughout our organisation, that operates across 12 sites and employs 300 people.

CRT Group was also awarded the ExxonMobil Award for Excellence in OHS.  Category winners from the several awards presented on the day are automatically submitted for this pinnacle award, which recognises the most outstanding achievement in workplace health and safety by an organisation.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of QR Limited, CRT Group´s safety vision is ´to be world class in safety´.  In 2006, CRT Group made the decision to improve its performance and developed a sustainable safety framework that focused on the goal of ZERO injuries.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of CRT Group, David Caruana, welcomed the announcement and acknowledged the significant investment made by the business in OHS&E.

"CRT Group has made a significant investment over the last three years and is proud to be acknowledged for our achievements in developing best practice in OHS&E.  To receive these awards is a great honour and is a testament to the dedication, passion and discipline of our team", he said.

Mr Caruana highlighted the key milestone achieved by the business of operating over a continuous period of 19 months (to September 2009) without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).

"As a business we have agreed that there would be no short-cuts taken when it comes to safety.  In all of our business dealings CRT Group has made safety non-negotiable, to ensure that our customers and staff remain safe.  We believe that all injuries are preventable," he said.
